Memetics: The EW Music List
Like the movie list, the music list ends up almost entirely bold-faced. More than movies or books, I love music, and there is very little of importance or "quality" (however defined) that I don't have -- at least when it comes to the rock spectrum that Entertainment Weekly chronicles.
Much of what I don't have, I used to have but lost in the fire and never managed/bothered to reacquire.

After doing the book list I am not at all surprised that of the 28 albums I don't have, 19 are by female artists or bands fronted by women.

given the humungousness of my dear spouse's online music library, i'd venture to guess that we have everything. but i have not LISTENED to that much! unlike you, i am passive about music in general, and with the advent of online-music-getting, i have sacrificed the notion of the ALBUM as a coherent thing. i'm not alone, i know, but still sad. of the albums on the list, the only one i treasure as a progression of songs, as an ALBUM, is exile in guyville. wait, and 3 feet high and rising. my laziness is a bummer, my willingness to sacrifce the notion of a thought-out, coherent album. slacker bitch.
finally read that issue of EW in print. very good one. and yo yo yo, i have seen 33 of their top 50 plays. better batting average than my movies or books lists.
I still love albums. Even in this era of being able to download a single song, I almost always d/l entire albums (being able to get most things DRM-free for under $10 at amazon makes it easy). The exceptions are things like one-offs, novelties, interesting covers, and the occasional ridiculously catchy R&B/hip-hop jam that I have to have.
33 out of 50 plays! Wow! I haven't seen the list but I think it's safe to say I've seen zero, unless the Patrick Stewart-starring 'Tempest' makes the list. Oh, and I saw 'Rent,' which probably is on there...
