Tiny Steps, Almost Real

I joined a volleyball league at the Y which plays every Thursday night, and after the first game two weeks ago I had an endorphin high the likes of which I hadn't had in years. I missed last week's game because I was on the road but I can't wait to play this week! By Thursday the giant bruise on my knee should be completely healed, too.

Getting a little bit of exercise got me thinking about getting back to the gym as well. I went on Monday morning and it seemed like months since I'd been there, probably because it had been. I didn't do much, just 8 minutes on the treadmill, but it was better than nothing. And, as a bonus, the two guys who talk loudly, constantly, and boringly in the locker room were there but weren't yapping.

Even though I barely broke a sweat I realized I did feel better for the rest of the day. So, I'm re-resolving to get to the gym two other times per week, and I'm following the advice in this article from Zen Habits I found on Lifehacker.

So here's my first goal: Out the door by 6:30 every Monday and Wednesday morning to do 10 minutes on the treadmill. If I'm on the road then 10 minutes on the treadmill in the hotel's fitness center.

You'll hear about it here whether or not I make it.

Kudos!

Are you walking on the 'dreadmill' or running?

Two (v'ball) words: Knee Pads.

Yeah, gotta get knee pads. I need new shoes, actually, too, but it's been hard to justify athletic equipment when I haven't been all that athletic!

I walk on the treadmill -- running doesn't feel good on the knees, and the shoes (see above) make it uncomfortable too.

You can walk longer than ten minutes! You should add a minute each day.

Also, if your shoes are bad, you won't enjoy any of it as much....come on, spring for some new kicks!

Signed with love,

Your pushy mother
