Viva Batgirl
Got sad, but not unexpected, news yesterday as Bat Girl announced she is closing down her site.
Bat Girl was, quite simply, one of the best baseball bloggers. No qualifications on that are necessary. She wrote with passion, humor and knowledge about her beloved Twins for 3+ full seasons, but real life intervened and apparently made it impossible for her to keep writing.
Bat Girl joins a growing list of what I think of as the "first wave" of great baseball bloggers to hang it up, alongside Edward Cossette (author of Bambino's Curse) and Brian Gunn (Redbird Nation). She was also the one writer I tried the hardest to recruit over to All-Baseball.com, and though she never agreed to join us she was always very nice when she turned me down repeatedly.
She injected at least two memes into the baseball blogging world: baseball boyfriends and Legovision re-enactments. But there was also the nicknames, the Bat-Kitties, Santana/Nathan '04 ("Starting and Closing For America"), Chicks Dig Small Ball, and so much more.
Good luck with everything, Anne. Give my best to Dash. You will be missed.
