Who Am Us, Anyway?

It feels a little strange to be starting a blog in 2006, especially one about topics that are being so well covered by so many other people. But times being what they are, and my ego being what it is, welcome to my new blog! I don't even have a solid name for it yet, but I do have an idea of what I'll be writing about, which is "basically whatever pops into my head or onto my computer screen."

Too amorphous? Probably. But the fact is, a lot of things interest me, and many of them interest me enough to write something about them. After writing almost exclusively about the Chicago Cubs for the last five years, it will be nice to use a different set of writing muscles now. Besides, how are the freelance writing assignments going to start pouring in, leading to the life of leisure and decadence that all my writer friends enjoy, unless I prove to the world that I can write something other than "Dusty Baker should be fired"?

I'll be writing about the four things in the sub-title of this blog, as well as other things that capture my attention. My Google Reader subscriptions list contains folders for food, baseball, tv, and babies as well as technology, advertising, travel, pop culture, and lots more. It's all fair game, baby.

Hey Christian, it's after 4 on a Friday, I don't feel like doing any work and I just got an email from you (about our babysitter) and I saw the link in your sig . . . great blog. I often think I'd like to blog, but I don't need one more thing keeping me at a computer . . . so instead of writing my own, I spend time at the computer reading others . . . somehow I can't bring myself to WRITE a blog at work . . . but READING a blog . . . well that's not slacking is it?

Anyway, just thought I'd let you know I'm reading, so if in conversation some time I happen to mention what you had for dinner the other night, it wasn't like I was peeping through your windows.

Just found your new digs via Pinto. Amorphousness can be a good thing -- personally I find that having a place to ramble about whatever often frees me up for writing more focused stuff. Best of luck!
